Spinal care
To adjust the spine, the primary adjusting technique used by Dr. Langel is the:
Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique
Activator Methods normalizes the tone of the nervous system; abnormal tone is caused by the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). Imagine that your nervous system has a volume control: if you turn the volume up too high, it causes distortion (increased tone) which can show up, for example, as internal organ complaints, musculoskeletal stresses, diminished immune response and emotional/behavioral problems.
The same thing occurs if the volume control is set too low, in other words the nervous system is not sending enough messages to the body for what is necessary to get the job done (decreased tone). This causes your body systems to become sluggish. They slow down function and sometimes simply turn off. The muscles can become weak and do not support your skeleton well, leading to all sorts of aches and pains. Activator Methods corrects these problems with increased or decreased neurological tone by normalizing the functioning of the nerves, spinal cord and brain.
Activator Methods is based on neurological testing and gentle thrusts by the "Activator" adjusting instrument. This low force adjusting method allows the nervous system to better integrate and understand the new corrective information and to process it throughout the spinal cord and brain.
Your nervous system corrections do not stop once you get off the table, they continue as you breathe and move. You may notice that "spontaneous release" of spinal tension later in the same day. Activator Methods teaches and empowers your body to make more corrections and healing with ongoing care. Because analysis and correction are not limited to just the area of pain and symptoms, integration tends to be more complete and healing experiences are deeper in all areas of the body, mind, and emotions.
Activator adjustments release tension on the nervous system which may lead to profound neurological changes. These changes can benefit everyone regardless of what symptoms they are experiencing or their current level of health. The primary intent of Activator Methods is to progressively release tension, torsion, and distortion of the entire neurological system; to release trapped unresolved patterns in the body/mind and to facilitate reintegration of the nervous system thus, allowing for a greater expression of one’s healing and performance capabilities.
What can I expect from Activator Methods?
The affects you feel from an Activator Methods adjustment are dependent upon your own body’s healing capability. If you are mentally and physically ready to begin the healing process, the Activator Methods protocol is a very powerful system, since it releases deep neurological stresses, even from events that happened earlier in your life. In fact, some patients have stated that they have experienced memories from childhood during their Activator Methods adjustments.
If you really want to enjoy the benefits of the Activator Methods protocol, a minimum of 90 days of care is recommended to start. This style of neurological correction is based upon repetition, energy, and time. It takes repetition to clear the neurological habit patterns that have been accumulating for years. It takes energy on both the doctor’s part and your part to begin the healing process. And finally, it takes time for your body to heal.
Many people notice a tremendous sense of relaxation and well-being after an Activator adjustment. Most people take deep sighs after these adjustments as their bodies release deep neurological stresses that have been accumulating over the years. Overall, it’s always a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.
There weren't any popping sounds when you worked on me. Did you really give me an adjustment?
There are many ways of adjusting patients. Some involve a physical movement of the joints between two spinal bones, resulting in the sound that people are so familiar with. Other techniques use light force or an instrument that does not cause any sound. Both techniques work! It all comes down to the intent of the chiropractor in releasing stresses to your nervous system.
What types of conditions does Activator Methods help?
It’s important to note that Activator Methods (or chiropractic in general) is not a treatment for specific diseases. Activator Methods is meant to correct the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (nerve system disturbance) which is interfering with health, healing, repair and adaptability. Symptoms are indicators of changes occurring in the body. We don’t necessarily want to turn off the symptom or indicator but find out what is causing it. Improving the healing and repair ability of your body by improving what controls it – your nervous system – will maximize your response to whatever symptom or condition you may encounter.
Is this technique safe for infants and children?
We have found that this technique is one of the best ones we’ve seen for all ages of children; from birth through adolescence. The technique is extremely gentle, with no forceful manipulations of the spine. Children really enjoy its gentleness and often hop up onto the tables in anticipation of their neurological corrections! This is one of the most powerful methods known to improve your child’s health.
Cranial care
To correct cranial subluxations, Dr. Langel uses the "Blye Cranial Technique" which is a neurologically-based, subluxation specific cranial adjusting technique. It produces very dramatic results on physical, neurological and mental conditions, many which were previously thought to be incurable.
Blye Cranial Technique IS NOT craniosacral therapy.
Blye Cranial Technique was developed by Dr. John Blye, a chiropractor from Lynnwood, WA and is based on the E/R Model of Dis-ease ("dis-ease" means "lack of coordinated function"). When a cranial bone is subluxated it causes neurological dysfunction. The purpose of a cranial adjustment is to remove the subluxation and restore normal neurological function.
The cranium (skull) houses 80% of the central nervous system. Cranial bones are interlinked via cranial articulations. These joints are called “sutures”. The proper movement of cranial bones is critical to proper brain function. This movement allows the normal brain to expand and contract as necessary to maintain normal intracranial pressure. This motion also circulates cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) around the brain.
A Cranial Subluxation is a condition where movement of the cranial articulations is reduced or absent. Like vertebral subluxations, cranial subluxations cause health problems due to nerve pressure. Cranial Subluxations increase intracranial pressure and cause abnormal brain function at the location of the cranial subluxation. An increase in intracranial pressure can cause a disruption of proper brain function due to increased nerve pressure to the delicate brain tissue. These effects can be very profound as the brain controls and coordinates everything in the body and mind.
Cranial Chiropractors have specialized training in the detection, reduction, and elimination of cranial subluxations. Only chiropractors with advanced training can safely correct cranial subluxations. Chiropractic adjustments of the cranium restore proper cranial motion. This removes nerve pressure, restores CSF circulation and intracranial pressure, normalizes brain function, and improves health.
While most other cranial techniques use a very light touch, Blye Cranial Technique utilizes the "Activator" instrument to safely perform the adjustments. This allows us to provide a controlled amount of force, in a specific direction, to accurately correct cranial subluxations.
